A Cookie is a fragment of information that is stored on your PC hard drive when you access, via your browser, a webpage and always under the petition of that page. This information can be recovered by the server on later visits. They are needed because the HTTP protocol cannot keep the information itself, and needs to save it, for example: username for an accoount or web configuration, colour preferences, etc.
